Too many customers were confused by Jason Viscount’s two similarly named central Pa. restaurants.
So he took matters into his own hands last December and temporarily shut the doors at Greystone Brew House at the Range End Golf Club in Carroll Township, York County.
“One of our problems was that people were making reservations at the wrong restaurant,” Viscount said. “It literally happened every day.”
Over the past three months, Viscount and his staff reimagined the restaurant and special occasion spot. It opens on March 11 as Range & Rye, and boasts “locally rooted flavors.”
The restaurant sits at the edge of the golf course with two levels of seating, including indoor and outdoor areas and a banquet space.
The new name distinguishes it from Viscount’s Greystone Public House in Lower Paxton Township, which has more of a Mediterranean theme.
“With them being so different we thought, ‘Why don’t we take this opportunity to change the name and change up the concept?‘” Viscount said.
Range & Rye’s menu leans heavily on affordable, good food with a twist designed to appeal to a variety of tastes, including families. It doesn’t include steaks.
“It’s definitely more homestyle hearty meals like a create-your-own mac n’ cheese you add protein to,” said Tessa Hergenrother, general manager.
The menu also features appetizers such as wings, buffalo chicken dip, Wagyu chili, open-face sandwiches, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, flatbreads and meatloaf.
Viscount said he’s locally sourcing some ingredients, including Wagyu ground beef from A5 Wagyu farm, as well as eggs, produce and Bell & Evans chicken.
Signature and seasonal cocktails will be highlighted along with craft beers and an expanded reserve wine list.
Dining room hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sundays.
