The Boston Celtics are back on the road for a second straight game facing the Cavaliers on Sunday, before they head home for a four-game homestand, and are currently riding a seven-game winning streak. Boston was the first team to defeat Cleveland earlier this year after the Cavaliers started their season on a 15-0 start, the best start in their franchise history, and only the fourth team in NBA history.
Both teams will come into the matchup with several names on the injury report, with Cleveland already ruling out two of their players, and the Celtics having four of their key players listed as questionable as of Saturday evening. Here’s a look at the Celtics and Cavaliers injury report heading into their marquee Sunday matchup.
Derrick White was injured in the third quarter of Friday’s win over the Chicago Bulls, and while he told head coach Joe Mazzulla that he’d be fine, his status is up in the air along with three of his teammates. With the Celtics playing back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday, it’s important to note that Al Horford does not play in both games of a back-to-back set, so he will likely miss Sunday but return on Monday.
After rehabbing his way back from a hip injury in the pre-season, Max Strus suffered an ankle sprain that originally was set to see him miss six weeks. Strus has yet to appear in a regular season game for Cleveland this year, and will be re-evaluated sometime soon to provide an update on his status. This will be the sixth consecutive game missed for Wade who is also out with an ankle sprain.
