The Boston Celtics will be making their trip to the White House to celebrate winning their record-setting 18th NBA championship with President Joe Biden on Thursday.
Boston hosts the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA Cup action on Tuesday, then has two days off before playing another NBA Cup game in Washington against the Wizards on Friday, making this an easy opportunity for the Celtics to celebrate their accomplishment at the White House.
The Celtics went 16 years between winning titles before claiming the 2024 championship in June with a five-game victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
The Denver Nuggets didn’t visit Biden in 2023 after winning the title in 2023 due to scheduling conflicts, and the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers were unable to make the trip after Biden took office in January 2021. Prior to that, the 2017 and 2018 Golden State Warriors and 2019 Toronto Raptors did not go to the White House during President Donald Trump’s first term in office.
This is already Boston’s second and final trip to Washington of the season, having played the Wizards in D.C. for the first time this season on Oct. 24.
