Nevada’s statewide employment increased by 5,300 jobs or 0.3 percent since November, which is an increase of 10,600 jobs (0.7%) since December 2023, according to the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s December 2024 economic report.
The December unemployment rate remained at 5.7 percent and the labor force grew by 1,129, according to the report.
Metropolitan Statistical Area Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):
— Carson City employment increased by 200 jobs (0.6%) since November, an increase of 700 jobs (2.2%) since December 2023.
— Reno employment decreased by 400 jobs (-0.1%) since November, an increase of 2,100 jobs (0.8%) since December 2023.
— Las Vegas employment increased by 4,200 jobs (0.4%) since November, an increase of 7,800 jobs (0.7%) since December 2023.
“This month’s report shows a slight rebound in employment growth, which rose to 0.7% over the year after adding 5,300 jobs from November to December,” said David Schmidt, Nevada’s chief economist. “The unemployment rate again remained steady at 5.7%, while wage growth over the past year again accelerated to the fastest pace this year, rising by 6.2%.”
