NORMAN, Okla. – Tommy Carr and Evan Forrest from the Skidmore College men’s golf team were announced as Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for Division III as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Thursday.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
208 NCAA Division III athletes from 81 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. Trine had six recipients, tied with Georgia Southern, Mercer, Texas Tech, Yale (NCAA Division I), Missouri S&T (NCAA Division II), and Texas Wesleyan (NAIA) for the most recipients from one school across all six divisions in 2023-24. Eight NCAA Division III schools had at least five recipients, including Emory (5), Illinois Wesleyan (5), LeTourneau (5), Mary Hardin-Baylor (5), RPI (5), Stevens (5), Trine (6), and Washington & Lee (5).
In addition to the two from Skidmore and five rom RPI, the Liberty League was represented by three student-athletes from the University of Rochester.
The Thoroughbreds placed third at the 2024 Liberty League Championship. Forrest finished tied for second following a three-way playoff for the individual crown. He led the team with a stroke average of 75.81. Carr tied for 17th in the league tournament and finished the year with a 78.41 scoring average.
