Carlos Alcaraz crashed out of the ATP Finals at the group stage, but this has still been a staggeringly lucrative year for the 21-year-old superstar.
French Open and Wimbledon champions Alcaraz faced an uphill battle to make the semi-finals in Turin after he lost 7-6(5), 6-4 against the in-form Alexander Zverev in his final group match.
His exit was confirmed when Casper Ruud won the first set of his match against Andrey Rublev in the Friday evening session, making it mathematically impossible for Alcaraz to get through to the weekend.
Alcaraz may well have made a better impressive at the ATP Finals if we had not been downed by a virus at the start of the week, which affected him as he lost his opening match against Ruud.
Yet he will head into his final event of 2024 at next week’s Davis Cup Finals in an upbeat mood after a solid win against Rublev and a battling performance against the classy Zverev.
Alcaraz started 2024 with a disappointing defeat against Zverev in the Australian Open quarter-finals, but he backed that up with thrilling wins at the French Open and Wimbledon.
He had a prize money total of $9,122,838 for this year heading into the ATP Finals and he can add another $727,500 to that total from his week in Turin.
That brings his grand total for the year to $9,850,338 and that total is set to go through the magical $10million as he will get a share of the prize money from the Spanish team’s pot at next week’s Davis Cup Finals.
If Spain win the Davis Cup on home soil in what will be Rafael Nadal’s final event of his career, the team will share a bumper prize pot of $2,678,571.
The runners-up in Malaga next week will collect $1,607,143, while teams that reach the semi-finals will get $1,071,429 and quarter-finalists will take home $535,714.
Of course, prize money is no longer the big motivating factor for Alcaraz, who had already won a staggering $36,876,485.
That total does not include the $1.5million Alcaraz was paid to play in the Six Kings Slam exhibition event in Saudi Arabia last month and it will also not include the huge appearance fees he can now ask for when he plays in non-mandatory ATP Tour events.
Carlos Alcaraz has ‘deeper level of talent’ than Jannik Sinner

While world No 1 Jannik Sinner made the slightly unconvincing claim that he played in the Six Kings Slam for the love of tennis and the chance to compete against top players, Alcaraz was a little more honest when he was asked about his participation in the event.
“I love playing tennis. You know, most of the time I don’t think about the money. I just play for love or for fun. But you have to be realistic,” he said.
“You have to think that you want to earn money, you know, and that’s it. In Saudi Arabia is the most, highest prize money ever, that was a good motivation, at least for me.”
Alcaraz is already up to No 9 in the all-time prize money list in men’s tennis, with Novak Djokovic leading those statistics with remarkable career earnings of $185,065,269.
Rafael Nadal is next in that list with $134,946,100 and Roger Federer is in third place with $130,594,339.
Andy Murray is fourth with $64,687,542 and Alexander Zverev headed into this week’s ATP Finals in fifth place on the list with $46,023,424.
Italy’s Jannik Sinner is down in 16th place with $29,108,484, but he looks certain to rise rapidly if he continues his current sparkling form.
