The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the North Canton Chamber of Commerce recently participated in the first Chamber Cup at Arrowhead Golf Club.

The golf competition was styled after the Ryder Cup tournament, which involves multiple formats where players earn points to determine an overall winner. Members from each chamber joined teams to represent their city and network on Aug. 30.

“It was incredible to see members from both Chambers come together for some friendly competition,” Jeff Dafler, president and CEO of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, said in a prepared statement. “I’d like to extend a special thank you to Nik Pappas, president of the North Canton Chamber board of trustees, for suggesting this wonderful idea and helping to make the event such a success. We’re excited to build on this momentum and continue fostering collaboration in future events.”

Blue Falls Car Wash to host grand re-opening

Blue Falls Car Wash by Conrad’s at 6652 Frank Ave. NW celebrated its one-year anniversary with a grand re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 20.

“We continue to be proud of being a part of the North Canton community and will be offering 50% off the first month on various monthly wash packages for new customers,” General Manager Sam Jakabcic said in a prepared statement.

The car wash is a division of the family-owned Conrad Companies. The automotive service company has more than 500 employees at more than 50 facilities in Northeast Ohio.

Furbay Electric Supply Co. celebrates 90th anniversary

The Canton-based Furbay Electric Supply Co. recently celebrated its 90th anniversary.

President Timothy A. Furbay, grandson of founder Ralph E. Furbay, hosted a dinner Sept. 14 at Glenmoor Country Club for employees and customers. The electrical wholesale business began amid the Great Depression and initially featured small appliances and lighting fixtures, according to a company news release.

Ralph’s son, Philip, later joined the company and served as president, followed by Timothy Furbay, who began working for the company in 1974. The company purchased Mansfield Electric and expanded into central Ohio during the latter’s presidency.

A location in St. Clairsville was added in 2020 to serve the oil and gas industry, and plans are underway for a site in the Columbus area to service the construction industry, according to the release. The company employs 75 people and is a member of several trade organizations, which include the National Association of Electrical Distributors, the American Lighting Association, and Imark.

“As we face the future, it is extremely important for Furbay’s to stay focused on the needs of our customers and the communities we serve,” Timothy Furbay said in a prepared statement. “It is equally important to preserve the hard work and integrity of my father Phil, and grandfather Ralph. And it goes without saying that we have been truly blessed with opportunities to grow and succeed, and I trust that providence will grant us with more of the same.”

Timken Co. completes CGI acquisition

The Timken Co., a global manufacturer of industrial motion products with headquarters in Jackson Township, announced that it has completed its acquisition of CGI Inc., which manufactures precision drive systems.

Automation and robotics products from the Nevada-based CGI serve various markets, particularly the medical field. The company has about 130 employees and is expected to generate $45 million in sales this year, according to the Timken Co. announcement.

Goodwill Ken Weber Community Campus celebrates 15 years

The Goodwill Ken Weber Community Campus at 408 Ninth St. SW will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Tuesday.

The campus and Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a ceremony starting at 7:30 a.m. that will feature remarks by Anne Richards, president and CEO for Goodwill of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio. Community leaders and nonprofit partners also will highlight “the campus’ impact over the last 15 years,” according to the chamber’s announcement.

There will be a ribbon cutting at 8:45 a.m.

Diebold Nixdorf leaders named, recognized

Diebold Nixdorf, a global ATM and financial solutions company based in North Canton, has hired Kathleen Creech as executive vice president and chief people officer. Her first day was Sept. 16, according to a company announcement.

Creech previously served as chief people officer for Snap One, a smart living and automation business, and Manhattan Associates, a supply chain solutions company.

“We are excited to have Kathleen join our executive leadership team,” Octavio Marquez, Diebold Nixdorf’s president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Her experience in leading programs that cultivate culture for technology organizations and designing strategies that put people first will serve us very well in support of our continuous improvement journey.”

Also in September, Alcott Global honored the company’s senior vice president of supply chain, Joern Foerster. Alcott Global, a consulting agency, compiles an annual list of the top 30 leaders in the supply chain sector.

Foerster received a Leaders in Supply Chain Award for 2024 for initiatives that include developing new suppliers in key locations, moving from a centralized to a distributed manufacturing model, and “optimizing its global supply chain footprint to provide greater flexibility and resilience while reducing significant goods in transit,” according to a company announcement.

“I am delighted to receive this award which, importantly, I accept on behalf of my leadership team and the entire Diebold Nixdorf global supply chain team,” Foerster said in a prepared statement. “Over the last years, our efforts to stabilize and constantly improve our supply chain have been an enabler of success for our company’s performance, which makes me very proud.”
