Camp Hill-based Planet Fitness franchisee National Fitness Partners (NFP) announced the acquisition of more than 20 clubs in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.
“This acquisition is a major milestone for National Fitness Partners, bringing us closer to our goal of making fitness accessible to everyone,” Stephen Kindler Jr., president and CEO of National Fitness Partners said in a statement. “We are excited to welcome our new team members to the National Fitness Partners family and look forward to serving the Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee communities.”
With the expansion NFP now owns and operates 172 Planet Fitness locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Indiana and Tennessee. The acquisition from the Baker Group marks an expansion into the Columbus market and new territories in Indiana and Tennessee.
“We are excited about this opportunity for our members and employees to join the National Fitness Partners family,” said Alex Baker, COO of the Baker Group. “NFP shares our commitment to providing exceptional fitness experiences, and we are confident that our clubs will continue to thrive under their ownership.”
The transaction is the 12th acquisition for NFP, which was founded in 2016 in partnership with Argonne to acquire 10 Planet Fitness locations in Cumberland County and central Pennsylvania from the Kindler family. The Kindlers have been involved in the fitness industry since 1967 and legacy Planet Fitness franchisees since 2005, when the family converted two gyms in Harrisburg to Planet Fitness locations.
“As we continue to grow, we remain steadfast in our commitment to evolve and improve the customer experience, equipment offering and member amenities for all of our members,” said Kindler.
Planet Fitness has 2,617 stores in 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico, and Australia. Founded in 2003, Argonne Capital Group is a private investment firm that makes equity investments in a range of middle market businesses with growth models.
