Cameron Norrie has withdrawn from the US Open after failing to recover from his ongoing injury.
The British No. 2 has already missed the Olympics and the Cincinnati Open.
Norrie has not played a match since losing to Rafael Nadal in Bastad a month ago.
Norrie announced that he would be pulling out of the US Open in a social media post on Friday. “I have been working hard to get my body to full health – unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped,” he wrote.
“Therefore I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open. I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog.”
It’s another blow for the world No. 47 after having his summer derailed by the injury. Norrie travelled to Paris for the Olympics but withdrew ahead of his opening match.
He was expected to return this week at the Cincinnati Open. But he also pulled out at the 11th hour. This time, Norrie’s decision to skip the US Open has come with plenty of notice – more than a week before the tournament begins.
Before getting injured, the 28-year-old had been struggling for form. He has not reached a quarter-final since April and went on a three-match losing streak during the British grass summer. Norrie was stunned by then-world No. 773 Jack Pinnington Jones in the second round of the Nottingham Challenger.
