Camden Catholic football to search for new boss after Wayne Gilliam II steps down
Wayne Gilliam II has stepped down as head coach of the Camden Catholic High School football team.
Last season, Gilliam led the Irish to the West Jersey Football League Patriot Division title with a 9-2 record, the most wins in a season since 2016.
Gilliam took over the program at his alma mater in 2023 after Camden Catholic went 1-8 the previous fall. He was the fifth coach in an eight-year span for the Irish and led the team to a 12-9 mark in his two seasons.
While he changed his X account bio to “former head coach,” Gilliam also posted that he wasn’t done with coaching.
Gilliam is the second head football coach in South Jersey to hand in their resignation this week. Mike Wilson stepped down at Schalick after five seasons, which included consecutive appearances in the sectional final.
