Michigan is having quite the Monday evening on the recruiting trail.

First, Michigan landed brothers and teammates from Arkansas in defensive backs Tevis and TJ Metcalf. Less than an hour later Michigan picked up the commitment of Cal Poly transfer offensive tackle Brady Norton. Norton has three years of remaining eligibility.

Norton was an absolute monster in 2024 as a freshman. Norton was PFF’s highest-grade offensive lineman in the FCS. In 444 pass-blocking snaps, Norton was unstoppable, allowing zero sacks and zero quarterback hits. The Cal Poly official site has Norton listed at 6-foot-3, 275 pounds while his 247 Sports profile has him listed at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. It’ll be interesting to see whether Norton sticks at tackle or slides over to guard during his time at Michigan.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore’s philosophy is he plays the five best linemen and is willing to shift players to different spots along the line if he thinks that’s the best fit. However, Norton’s success at tackle can’t be ignored, even if it was against a brand of opponents not of the same caliber as whom Michigan faces.

Whether Norton winds up being a starter for Michigan will be decided in spring ball and beyond. Norton’s presence on the roster is certainly a welcomed addition for an o-line that got lighter last week when tackle Andrew Gentry entered the portal.
