The Buffalo Bills are a juggernaut.
Their latest victim this season was the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the team’s Monday Night Football matchup, Buffalo exorcised demons by destroying a Jaguars team that had beaten them in their past two matchups. On Monday night, the Bills scored touchdowns on their first five drives on their way to a 47-10 drubbing of the Jaguars.
Following their latest win, Pro Football Focus (PFF) graded out the play of the Bills. Here is what you need to know.
Buffalo’s rookie pass-rusher made his NFL debut on Monday night after dealing with an oblique injury that kept him inactive the first two weeks of the season. In his first action of his career, Solomon played 14 total snaps including 10 pass rush snaps. One of his pass-rush snaps resulted in his first career sack and a forced fumble. That and his overall play getting after the quarterback led to PFF giving Solomon an elite 93.1 pass-rush grade and a 93.3 overall grade.
Solomon was able to pin his ears back with the Jaguars being one-dimensional, but if he continues to make the most of his reps the Bills will have to give Solomon more opportunities on the field.
Buffalo’s linebackers have been among their lowest-graded defensive units each week. In Week 3, Dorian Williams ended that trend with an overall grade of 88.8. In addition to his overall grade, Williams graded out well in run defense (70.8), tackling (83.3), coverage (84.4) and run defense (68.3). Williams finished the game with a team-leading 11 tackles in the win.
After throwing for four touchdowns in the first half, it was no surprise to see Josh Allen atop Buffalo’s offensive grades. Allen was nearly flawless in the win and helped the team put away the Jaguars by halftime.
Although none of the starting offensive linemen made the top five overall grades, all of them posted positive grades against the Jaguars. Dion Dawkins had a 70.3 run-block grade, David Edwards posted a 75.5 pass-block grade, O’Cyrus Torrence had a 79.9 pass-rush grade, Spencer Brown added a 75.5 pass-block grade and Connor McGovern had the highest overall grade among the starting linemen (67.6).
Kaiir Elam received 14 snaps in the win and performed well in his first action of the year on defense. Elam had a pass breakup that almost went for a pick-six in the blowout win. Elam is more than capable of contributing at cornerback, but Christian Benford and Rasul Douglas have been too good to take off the field.
Among the players who played 10 snaps or more, two receivers and one tight end found themselves at the bottom of the list. Hollins, despite grading out poorly, ran a great route on the opening play of the game to spring James Cook open for a 19-yard gain through the air. He added some solid blocks down the field and hauled in one catch for 16 yards.
Brandon Codrington was acquired exclusively for his return abilities, but he received some opportunities to play on defense in the lopsided win. PFF was not kind to the rookie in his first defensive appearance.
Although Dorian Williams graded out well, Baylon Spector found himself on the opposite side of PFF’s grades in the win. He finished with six total tackles in the win.
