Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott became just the fifth NFL head coach to post five consecutive 11-win seasons. McDermott reached the milestone following a Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions.
In his eighth season at One Bills Drive, McDermott has gone 89-50 (.642) overall — 84-44 (.659) in the regular season, and 5-6 (.455) in the postseason. McDermott joins a prestigious list of NFL head coaches that includes Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Tony Dungy, and Tom Landry.
Having turned 50 this past March, McDermott’s best years leading the Bills may still be ahead of him. Buffalo wrapped up its fifth-straight AFC East Division Championship title in Week 13. The Bills are also currently the two seed overall in the AFC, a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buffalo’s success is in large part thanks to the role that quarterback Josh Allen plays as the odds-on-favorite to win the Associated Press NFL MVP award in 2024. Despite the departure of key veteran leadership, and the trade that removed wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the equation, Allen has never been more consistently efficient. The past three games have seen Allen on a tear similar to what he accomplished during the 2020 NFL playoffs.
Through 14 games, Josh Allen has completed 275-of-427 passes (64.4%) for 3,395 yards with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions; adding 91 carries for 484 yards with 11 touchdowns and one reception for seven yards and another touchdown (stats courtesy of Pro Football Reference). Josh Allen is must-see TV for the NFL.
The Bills are in possession of a head-to-head tiebreaker over KC thanks to their win in November. Buffalo is now 11-3 with just three games left against a pair of AFC East teams already eliminated from postseason contention. Thanks to scheduling, there’s a real chance the Bills could claim the one seed if the Chiefs slip up down the stretch with games to go against the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, or Denver Broncos.
