CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski took the day off Saturday to help spread his football knowledge with local area high school flag football players.

The Cleveland Browns partnered up with USA Football to host their third annual Girls High School Flag Football Season Kickoff Clinic.

“We want to get girls playing across the state,” said Hannah Lee, manager of youth and high school football at USA Football.

Over 500 athletes from high schools across Northeast Ohio attended the event in Berea.

The clinic helps girls learn the fundamentals of flag football by going through 18 different stations.

“Literally after the first day of practice, I was like, ‘yeah, I’m going to have fun with this,” said 10th grader Brianna.

The hope is to expand flag football into more area high schools and surrounding areas and ultimately make flag football a girls varsity sanctioned sport in Ohio.

“I think it’s so important to me for it to become a sport and become big because it’s just so fun and everyone deserves to have fun with it,” said Addison Wesley, one of the flag football players.

The upcoming girls’ high school flag football season is set to begin on March 28. Registration is open through the end of February.
