The San Francisco 49ers were thought to be among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for a second straight year, but they haven’t been playing that way.
The 49ers suffered a disappointing 24-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to fall to 2-3 this season.
San Francisco scored all of its points in the first half and held a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter before allowing Arizona to make a comeback. It’s the second time this season that the team has blown a double-digit lead in an NFC West game following its Week 3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy completed just 19 of his 35 passes for 244 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, the second of which came with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter and sealed the game.
Fans and pundits on social media didn’t hesitate to call out San Francisco for its recent shortcomings following Sunday’s loss:

The #49ers are not a good team right now. Just accept it. Good teams don’t do the things that they’re doing.

Another awful, awful loss for the #49ers who drop to 2-3 on the season with a short week trip to Seattle coming up. Between this and Rams game, arguably two of the worst losses of the Kyle Shanahan era.
They’re now 0-2 in the NFC West and 0-3 in NFC games.
The 49ers have been without star running back Christian McCaffrey, who has yet to play this season while he nurses an Achilles injury. The team’s offense still has enough talent to be successful, but it has looked disjointed at times throughout the year.
San Francisco will have to regroup quickly, as it will return to action on Thursday Night Football in another NFC West matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
