TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A trend of redeveloping old golf courses is closer to being final in a north Brevard County neighborhood.
Last fall, some people who live on the closed Sherwood golf course in Titusville reacted unfavorably to a developer’s plan to build hundreds of new homes on the old course.
Brevard County then reviewed that polarizing application and passed it along to the planning and zoning board who took it up Monday night.
Neighbors who spoke to News 6 reporter James Sparvero, like Laura Morra, had a chance to address the board about their concerns with traffic and flooding.

“My driveway’s going to be tough to get out of,” Morra said.
Tom Erdman sided with Morra, saying 595 more homes is a lot for the neighborhood.
”We need controlled, smart growth — not out-of-control growth,” Erdman said.
The developer, the Ballarena Group out of South Florida, said it will build a stormwater park to flood when it rains, so there’s less flooding everywhere else.
An engineer said it’s a chance for the development to uplift the neighborhood.
”Our desire here is to improve the drainage situation in this area because to do nothing just means they’re going to have to live with the flooding problems forever,” Bruce Moia said.
One neighbor actually spoke in favor of the plan. He said he planned on buying a new home.
”This subdivision is going to be the best thing for this area,” he said.
County commissioners will have the final say whether the golf course redevelopment is approved.
That vote is scheduled for the county commission meeting on Sept. 5.
