GREEN ‒ Breeze Airways is expanding at the Akron-Canton Airport, including creating an operations base and adding jobs.
The project is expected to create 61 full-time equivalent positions, generating more than $11 million in new annual payroll, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday afternoon. It includes having two to three aircraft based at Akron-Canton.
The Ohio Tax Credit Authority has approved a 2.192%, nine-year Job Creation Tax credit for the project. It was one of 10 projects announced Monday statewide. Overall, the projects are expected to generate $74 million in new payroll and spur more than $1 billion in investments across Ohio.
Last year, Breeze said it was considering establishing a crew base at the Akron-Canton Airport. The airline began service in May 2021.
“We’re always evaluating kind of next places we’d grow or plant our flag,” Lukas Johnson, chief commercial officer for Breeze, said last year. “For us, that crew base means you overnight aircraft, you hire your local crews.”
It also typically increases the number of Breeze flights and destinations at the base airport. Last year, Breeze was Akron-Canton’s largest carrier by number of seats and destinations, accounting for about 35% of total passengers, according to airport officials.
