Columbus-based financial services company Bread Financial said Thursday that it is cutting 500 customer service jobs, including about 130 in central Ohio.
“Bread Financial’s business is strong, and this decision was made to ensure we can continue to successfully and efficiently meet the demands of our evolving business and customer preferences, including increased digital self-servicing, which lessens demand for customer service agent support,” the company said in a statement. “We are offering our impacted associates severance pay and outplacement support to aid them during this process.”
Bread, formerly known as Alliance Data, said the affected workers were notified Tuesday. They were given a 60-day notice.
After the cuts, the company will have about 6,500 employees, including 2,870 in central Ohio.
The company manages private-label and co-brand credit card programs for partners and offers other banking and financial education resources.
