Doha, Qatar: The seasonal hot, intense, dry wind season, known locally as ‘Simoom,’ has begun today and will last for two weeks, according to Qatar Calendar House (QCH).

‘Simoom,’ which affects most of the Arabian Peninsula, is a very hot and dry wind that stirs up sand and dust and is typically accompanied by rising temperatures. It is one of the most well-known monsoon winds in the region. QCH stated that this condition will persist until July 29.

The word ‘Simoom’ is derived from the harmful effects it has on plants and humans. The extreme conditions can cause visibility issues and may also cause sunstroke due to the intense heat.
