The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team secured a hard-fought 51-41 victory against Detroit Catholic Central on Friday in its Catholic High School League opener in the Sullivan Center. With the come-from-behind win, CCHS improves to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Central Division.
The Fighting Irish outscored the Shamrocks 26-11 in the pivotal 4th quarter to remain unbeaten on the season.
Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 24 points. A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell has poured in at least 20 points in both contests this season.
Sophomore Cayden Kynard added 9 points in the home victory, followed by junior Manny Johnson with 7 points.
Asher Suardini had 12 points for DCC (4-1, 1-1 CHSL), with Devin Lee and Jackson Bowden putting in 10 each.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 44-23 setback vs. DCC, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 61-37 decision.
The Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood against rival St. John’s Jesuit on Tuesday, December 17 in the Titan Dome, starting with the freshmen contest at 4:15 p.m.
