Boca’s sluggish start to the campaign continued Friday evening as they suffered defeat to Racing at the Presidente Perón.
Scorers: Vietto 16′, Martínez 87′
Coming into the match with just one win under their built, Boca were in need of a quick start to get under the skin of a Racing side that had picked up wins in three of their first four matches.
But the home side was on top from the start, and opened the scoring when Luciano Vietto capped off a counter-attack with a simple tap-in.
Boca appeared to be given a lifeline amid their fightback in the second-half when the referee went to the monitor to check for a handball in the Racing box, but the official waved it off after a lengthy check.
To make matters worse, Adrián Martínez killed the game off just a few minutes later when he scored his fourth goal of the season.
A rash challenge from Kevin Zenón in stoppage time saw the Argentine sent off with a straight red card, capping off a thoroughly woeful night for the visitors.
