Bill Belichick. Andy Reid. Tony Dungy. Tom Landry. Sean McDermott?
The Buffalo Bills head coach will join elite coaching company with a win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
McDermott would become the fifth coach in NFL history with five straight 11-win seasons.
The current quartet to accomplish the streak has a combined 12 Super Bowl rings as coaches, with each winning at least one Lombardi Trophy. Belichick, Reid and Landry are in the top five in career wins.
McDermott’s wins have had a snowball – and snow angel – effect.
Buffalo (10-2) has won five consecutive AFC East titles, with at least 11 wins each year. The Bills went 13-3 in 2020; 11-6 in 2021; 13-3 in 2022; and 11-6 in 2023.
McDermott has made the playoffs in seven of his first eight years in Buffalo. McDermott became the Bills head coach in 2017, leading them to their first playoff appearance in 18 years with a 9-7 season. His only losing season was going 6-10 in 2018, Josh Allen’s rookie year, going 6-10. Buffalo went 10-6 and made the postseason in 2019.
McDermott is also tied with John Madden for third-most wins in NFL history by a coach in is first eight seasons with 83. Only Paul Brown (87) and Mike Holmgren (84) have more. McDermott could pass Brown for the top spot if the Bills out in the regular season.
