“Bro does not care… Everything that’s being said about him, he really does not care” – This is what LeBron James said about Bronny when asked about rampant media criticism. Despite that, the media doesn’t seem to have gotten the hint, as they continue to target the father-son duo. While they explicitly aimed at James Jr. for all these days, the buzz machines recently took a shot at Akron Hammer, accusing him of a $38,500 antics.
Apart from the game, the auction is also an important aspect in the NBA world that grabs a lot of eyeballs. The match-worn jerseys, armbands, and other things go under the hammer and churn out a colossal sum. For instance, Michael Jordan‘s 1998 Finals jersey (The Last Dance) went for a staggering auction price of $10,091,000. In that lineup, Bronny James’ Summer League jersey went for auction but in turn, stirred up a controversy.
While the rising stars’ jersey usually doesn’t fetch an eye-catching amount, it indeed does a decent job. Notably, Atlanta Hawk’s #1 pick Zacharie Risacher’s Summer League jersey fetched $3,360. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Bronny James’ jersey went for a shocking $38,500. It was enough to invite the troublemakers. The Athletic’s No Dunks podcasters accused LeBron James of buying the jersey himself.

In the latest episode hosted by J.E. Skeets and Trey Kerby planted an accusation out of thin air. Speaking of the lofty price, Skeets said, “Jersey was originally estimated to sell for $6K-$10k. Bronny’s Summer League jersey. game in which I think he scored two points (4 points, 2-9 FG). He struggled.” While the duo discussed the shocking price, they didn’t hesitate to compare it with Risacher’s auction price. After a brief loiter around the subject, Kerby came up with an accusation, saying, “This will look sweet in LeBron’s man cave,” hinting that LeBron James would’ve bought it himself.
Did LeBron James just secretly buy Bronny’s $38,000 Lakers collectible? React!
Trey Kerby didn’t just stop at dropping a hint, but also backed it up with another statement. He added, “$38,000 is a lot of money unless you’re a billionaire. However, J.E. Skeets was quick to highlight a logical question, asking, “Yeah, it could be LeBron, but then it’s like I mean couldn’t he just say, ‘Hey, I want that’.”
Yes, that sounds right. LeBron James could’ve asked his son to give him the jersey after the game. But then, there’s also another aspect attached to it. A heightened auction price may also determine the rising star’s value in the market. May as well fetch him great deals in endorsements.

Notably, the 2023 #1 pick Victor Wembanyama‘s regular season debut game jersey went for a mammoth $7.62 million and became the sixth-highest-sold auction jersey in the NBA world. And as a reflection, Wemby has unlocked various eye-catching brand deals with Louis Vuitton. Importantly, there isn’t any clarity or proof of the accusation dropped by Trey Kerby.
The Wembanyama example seems to give a little insight into what may have gone behind the jersey’s auction price. At the same time, it could be an ardent fan or anyone who thinks the value of the jersey might blow up in the future. What do you make of the accusation? Let us know in the comments.
