Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is adding another media role to his portfolio this season as he’s set to host “Coach with Bill Belichick” — a weekly football analysis show for Underdog Fantasy.
The show, which will air on YouTube and debut before the start of the regular season, will feature Belichick giving team-by-team and game-by-game breakdowns each week of the 2024 NFL season. Belichick will serve as co-host and producer of the show.
“This show is going to give fans a comprehensive look at the behind-the-scenes of the National Football League: What it’s like to coach, how to prepare, how to team build, exactly the way I would do it if I was coaching a team,” Belichick said in a news release. “I partnered with Underdog because it’s a sports company run by sports people, and they want sports to connect to the fans, and that’s what I want to do.
“We want to find a connection where we are giving the fans what they’ve asked me for — perspective on decision-making that goes on within an organization and a breakdown of schematics and personnel within the game.”
The eight-time Super Bowl winning coach is already set to join the long-running series “Inside the NFL,” the CW Network announced earlier this month. Belichick will join former NFL players Ryan Clark, Chad Johnson and Chris Long for the show’s weekly panel.
Belichick also has an anticipated recurring role with the Manning brothers on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli,” a book deal, a potential inside football show and possibly a podcast, executives briefed on his plans told The Athletic.
Belichick started his post-Patriots media career by appearing on ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage, when he joined “The Pat McAfee Show” as an analyst. McAfee said publicly in February he would like to have Belichick on his show once a week during the season.
Belichick has made it very clear with his decision-making since parting from the Patriots that he has a significant interest in remaining relevant when it comes to the pro football space. You saw him as cast member on the “The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular” and during the season he will appear on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli” early in each game as well as “Inside the NFL” alongside Clark, Johnson and Long and as a weekly McAfee guest.
Our Andrew Marchand reported months ago that Belichick wanted to be part of some sort of audio or football show production, and as announced today, he’ll create and co-produce a new football show for Underdog Fantasy where he will breaking down film. Belichick had a weekly spot on “Patriots All Access” for many years, a one-hour show produced by Kraft Sports Productions that aired weekly in Boston and as part of “The Belestrator” and “Belichick Breakdowns” segments. Viewers saw Belichick in his natural film-wonk habitat, an engaging mad scientist mixing football potions together. Belichick has played his post-New England life very smartly: He now has a number of high-profile sports media gigs this season where he can maintain significant visibility to those who make coaching hires. He either sets himself for a post-coaching life in the media or returns to coaching after a year of making some nice money on the football media circuit. — Richard Deitsch, sports media senior writer
