Cameron Bancroft broke his nose and shoulder when he collided with Sydney Thunder team-mate Daniel Sams in the Big Bash League match against Perth Scorchers on Friday.
The pair were also both concussed after clashing heads when they ran into each other trying to take a catch at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
Sams, a 32-year-old all-rounder who has played 10 T20s for Australia, was carried off on a stretcher.
Batter Bancroft, who has played 10 Tests and one T20 for Australia, was able to walk off the ground despite blood pouring from his nose.
Thunder said on X that Bancroft, 32, will “undergo further specialist assessment over the next few days that will assess a return to play date”.
Bancroft and Sams were replaced by substitutes Ollie Davies and Hugh Weibgen, with Thunder going on to win by six wickets off the last ball of the game.
After five matches, Thunder are second in the Big Bash League, behind local rivals Sydney Sixers.
