In case you needed a reminder, Beyoncé is a fashion chameleon. The superstar can shapeshift into whatever sartorial identity pleases her, whether that means reviving Old Hollywood glamour in a dramatic gown or channeling her Texan roots by remixing western attire.
Now, Beyoncé seems to have set her sights on preppy fashion. With her whiskey line SirDavis, the singer attended the inaugural California Crown at Santa Anita Park over the weekend. Horse racing is the kind of sport that so often invokes all things preppy, from polo shirts to tweed jackets. But, as fans know well enough by now, Beyoncé doesn’t follow blueprints—she sets them.
The singer offered her own glamorous take on preppy style, pulling a sharp black and white tartan skirt suit from Retrofête’s Fall/Winter 2024 runway collection. Layering a boxy long coat over her shoulders, Beyoncé styled the double-breasted blazer with no top, allowing the pointed lapels to form a plunging V-shaped neckline. Underneath the miniskirt, she wore sheer black tights, capped off with black stiletto pumps.
For an extra dose of glamour, Beyoncé accessorized with a massive black wide-brimmed hat—a toss between her signature cowboy hat and a tilted fascinator.

The Grammy winner recently opened up about her decision to launch a whiskey brand after finding a surprising connection with one of her ancestors. “I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” she said. “When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy. In partnering with Moët Hennessy, we have crafted a delicious American whisky that respects tradition but also empowers people to experience something new and unique in the category. You can taste it better than I could ever tell you — welcome, SirDavis.”
