NBA legend, Tracy McGrady, has partnered with BVGroup, becoming the safer gambling ambassador in Canada for the gambling operator’s BetVictor brand.
Although born in Florida, McGrady has strong ties with Canada. He started his NBA career as a Toronto Raptor in 1997. While there, he and his cousin Vince Carter helped guide the Raptors to the playoffs for the very first time in franchise history, leaving an indelible mark on Canadian sports.
“I’m delighted to have signed Tracy McGrady to BetVictor to promote safer gambling,” BVGroup’s CCO Brent Almeida said. “Tracy is a perfect role mode, with an amazing career across 16 seasons in the NBA. Aligning with him is a perfecto fit for the BetVictor brand.”
In his 16-year tenure with the NBA, McGrady was a seven-time NBA All Star and a two-time NBA scoring champion. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2017.
“I’m delighted to continue my close partnership with BVGroup and become BetVictor’s safer gambling ambassador in Canada,” McGrady said in a statement.
Ontario market
BetVictor is a well-known gambling operator, founded in 1946. It obtained its license to operate in Ontario in 2022, just two months after the Canadian province opened its doors as a regulated online gambling market.
Ontario is a fast-growing online gambling market. For the period ended June 30, Ontario saw total online wagers of $18.4 billion, which was a 31% increase over the same quarter last year. Ontario had 50 licensed operators, running roughly 80 websites. The province had more than 1.29 billion active gambling accounts in the quarter, with an average monthly spend per account of $284.
As a relative newcomer to legalized online gambling, Ontario is laser focused on providing a safe and responsible gambling experience for its citizens. As such, McGrady’s new role is not just important for BetVictor. Having a safe gambling representative with T-Mac’s cache is also good for the province – and the industry.
