Naiim Parrish interception seals Bergen Catholic win
Naiim Parrish intercepted a pass thrown by Renick Dorilas on a trick play. The interception effectively sealed Bergen Catholic’s win over Don Bosco.
Through the rain, Naiim Parrish found the football and his spot in Bergen Catholic lore.
Parrish had two of the Crusaders’ three interceptions, including a game-sealer with 1:56 left, to push Bergen Catholic past Don Bosco, 24-20, on a soggy Saturday in Oradell.
Bergen Catholic took the lead late in the third quarter on 21-yard touchdown pass from Dominic Campanile to Bryan Porter, then went up 24-14 on a field goal.
Bergen Catholic struck first late in the first quarter. One play after a long catch by Quincy Porter, the Crusaders cashed in from the 1 when Dominic Campanile shuffled a pass inside to Dante Kain.
Don Bosco tied the score with 6:13 left in the second quarter on Dante DeLuca’s touchdown run.
Another turning point came with less than four minutes left in the first half when the Crusaders went for it on fourth-and-3 from their own 40. Campanile found Anthony Perrotti down the left sideline for what appeared to be a go-ahead touchdown. But an illegal man downfield call wiped the score off the board and angered BC Coach Vito Campanile, who came several yards onto the field.
