Could the Cincinnati Bengals actually make a move ahead of Tuesday’s NFL Trade Deadline?
According to The Athletic’s Diana Russini, the Bengals are interested in trading for a cornerback or a defensive lineman, which are easily the two weakest positions on the roster.
Oh, and Tee Higgins isn’t getting traded, which is pretty much a given between him being on the franchise tag and now sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Here’s what Russini had to say about the Bengals’ approach at the trade deadline.
Surprise! The team that has only acquired two players via trade in 52 years is looking to do some shopping. This isn’t the Bengals’ style, but they have strong belief in this team and intend to get back to, at least, the AFC Championship game. Despite sitting at 3-5, Cincinnati has been poking around in search of a cornerback and a defensive lineman to get defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo some help. Edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is seen as the only threat on this Cincy defense. Also: I was told they are not trading wideout Tee Higgins.
Now, showing interest in making a trade and actually making one are two different things. You’d like to think the team has always done its due diligence in gauging the trade market every year at the deadline, even if it was highly unlikely they’d make a trade. So is this really any different than what we’ve seen the team do every year?
We shall see.
