Bengals Wrap: Burrow makes preseason debut
The Cincinnati Bengals lost 17-14 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Preseason Week 1 despite a late touchdown
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced rookie offensive tackle Amarius Mims will miss “several weeks” with a strained pectoral muscle during his press conference ahead of the team’s NFL preseason Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears.
“It’s unfortunate that he’ll miss several weeks but expect him to make a full recovery and be ready to roll,” Taylor said on Monday.
Taylor said Mims will not undergo surgery for this injury but will miss time. Cincinnati’s sixth-year head coach wouldn’t rule out the chance for Mims to start in Week 1 when the Bengals host the New England Patriots on Sept. 8 yet. Mims, however, won’t be able to take part in any of the Bengals’ joint practices against the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts or preseason games.
The Bengals drafted Mims in the first-round of this year’s draft and so far he’s lived up to the expectations that come with being a first-round pick. Prior to the injury, Mims was in control of earning the starting right tackle job for the Bengals. Mims took all of the reps with the Bengals’ starting offensive line in the Bengals’ preseason opener on Saturday night and has taken every rep with the starters in practice minus one day when he left practice early with an undisclosed injury.
Following Cincinnati’s first exhibition game, Mims complained about soreness in his pectoral muscle and upon further examination the Bengals’ medical staff found out he is dealing with a strain.
With Mims out for a few weeks, veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown will take reps as the starting right tackle with the Bengals as Taylor announced he is will now begin taking team reps. Brown has yet to participate in any of the team portions of training camp so far after starting training camp on the non-football injury list.
