Ben Christman, a senior offensive lineman who recently transferred to UNLV, was found dead in an off-campus apartment Tuesday morning, the school announced.
He was 21.
The school said it had no additional details and the Clark County Coroner’s Office would release Christman’s cause of death at a later date.
“Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing,” head coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our Leadership Committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed.”
Chistman spent the last two seasons with Kentucky, appearing in 12 games on special teams in 2024 after missing the previous season with a knee injury.
He began his collegiate career at Ohio State, where he redshirted in 2021 and appeared in one game in 2022.
The Akron, Ohio native was a four-star recruit in high school.
“I was incredibly saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ben Christman,” UNLV president Keith E. Whitfield said in a statement. “There is little that can be said to lessen the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family at such a young age, and my heart breaks for all who knew and loved him.”
