A Carbon County man is recovering after a black bear attacked him on Sunday.
Andrew Nierer, of Jim Thorpe, was coming home from a nearby grocery store when the small bear attacked him.
Security camera footage from a nearby home shows the bear tackling Nierer and assaulting him before a neighbor comes up and shoots and kills the animal.
“It just up and jumped on him and grabbed him by the arm and wrestling him around here, I had no choice but to kill the bear so that’s what I did,” Mike Bramich, Nierer’s neighbor, said to WNEP.
A witness told the news station that they saw the bear emerge from the woods, run across the supermarket parking lot, and go right towards the market’s ramp.
“I just did what I needed to do, a man’s life was at stake the bear was trying to get to his throat, so I did what I did, I had to do it,” Bramich said.
Thanks to his neighbor’s quick thinking, Nierer said he was able to come away from the incident with minor injuries.
