Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Full Serrano will miss the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay and the Group 1 Saudi Cup due to an injury.
The injury and change in plans were previously reported by Brad Free of Daily Racing Form and were confirmed by a Santa Anita racing official to Horse Racing Nation. Trainer John Sadler did not disclose specifics about the injury, though suggested to Brad Free of Daily Racing Form that it was not serious. Sadler expects Full Serrano to be out 60 days before returning to training at Santa Anita. Sadler expects Full Serrano to return for handicap-division races in the spring or summer.
Full Serrano is a 5-year-old son of Full Mast out of the Jump Start mare Serra Do Mar. He was a four-time winner and Group 3-placed in Argentina, the country of his birth, before being purchased by longtime Sadler owner Hronis Racing.
In three starts for Sadler at Del Mar, Full Serrano has emerged as one of the leading older dirt horses. He won his stateside debut Aug. 3 in allowance company, missed by half a length to Mixto in the Pacific Classic (G1), and then upset the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 2. Between the Pacific Classic and the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, he got sick and missed a start in the California Crown (G1) at Santa Anita.
