Following the rules mentioned in its Constitution, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has dismissed 11 of its board directors, including former BCB president Nazmul Hassan and Bangladesh Premier League chairman Sheikh Sohel, for failing to attend three or more consecutive meetings.
During its 15th meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, the board also accepted resignations from three additional directors: Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud and Enayet Hossain Siraj.
The dismissed directors have not participated in BCB meetings since the Awami League government’s removal on August 5.
The decision has to led to significant reduction in BCB board of directors, dropping from 25 to 10, with one director having died before August.
Several of the dismissed individuals maintain connections to the Awami League. Nazmul previously held the position of sports minister, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury served as an Awami League MP and AJM Nasir Uddin was Chattogram mayor.
Sohel and Obeid Nazib have family ties to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while Mallick maintained close relations with Nazmul.
The organization has initiated the formation of a Constitution Amendment Committee to address operational requirements and current challenges. BCB Director Nazmul Abedeen will lead this committee as convener.
“The committee will be responsible for assessing the current BCB constitution, identifying areas of improvement and proposing amendments that align with the strategic goals and evolving needs of the BCB,” the press release read.
“The BCB is committed to delivering the 11th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 with utmost excellence, supported by the Bangladesh Government,” it added.
The BPL is scheduled to commence on December 30.
