The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended senior men’s team head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe on October 15 (Tuesday) on disciplinary grounds about issues from the ODI World Cup, where he had allegedly slapped one of the players.
Reports suggested that as soon as his suspension of 48 hours ends, he will be terminated from his position immediately. Phil Simmons, currently serving as bowling coach of the team will take over as head coach in an interim capacity.
Sri Lankan Hathurusinghe returned for his second tenure as Bangladesh coach despite an underwhelming performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. He impressed immediately with an away series win against Pakistan, which included their first Test win against Pakistan as well.
However, most recently, he faced a 0-2 whitewash in the Test series and a 0-3 whitewash in T20Is at the hands of India.
