Cedric Golden breaks down Texas’ big win over Oklahoma.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield gave Texas football fans a lot of grief during his tenure as Oklahoma quarterback. It’s why Texas linebacker Anthony Hill chose to stab his crimson No. 6 jersey with Texas’ flag at the end of their 34-3 win on Saturday.
Mayfield has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, which is what he did after the Buccaneers 51-27 win Sunday over the New Orleans Saints.
“Just a kid from Austin, Texas that went to Oklahoma,” Mayfield said in response to the incident. “Won his last two Red River games and has been rent-free in their heads for almost a decade.”

The quarterback went 2-1 in the Red River Rivalry, winning his final two matchups vs. Texas. During Mayfield’s last season in college, he won the Heisman Trophy by throwing for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns, cementing himself as one of the Sooners‘ most iconic players.
Mayfield led Lake Travis High School to the Class 4A Division I state championship in 2011 before graduating in 2013. He was a three-star recruit who initially went to Texas Tech before landing at Oklahoma. Before joining Tampa Bay, Mayfield was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns and made stops with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.
