Australia has been bowled out for their lowest ODI score in 15 years in the second match of this summer’s Women’s Ashes, with England’s spinners running rampant to trigger a collapse of 8/49 at the Junction Oval.

Their sub-par total of 180 came despite a very strong start, with Australian captain and opener Alyssa Healy depositing three of her first four balls to the boundary to give her side the ultimate start in St Kilda.

But after eight overs of dominance, the 34-year-old nicked off to young English star Lauren Bell for a quick-fire 29 off 19 balls to give the visitors their first sign of life.

Fellow opener Phoebe Litchfield departed for a patchy 29 (50), opting to play a rogue reverse sweep to star spinner Sophie Ecclestone.

Australia were cruising at 2/131 with Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney at the crease, but from there it was a slippery slope as the visiting spinners wreaked havoc on the hosts.

Ecclestone and Alice Capsey saw the back of Mooney (eight runs) and Annabel Sutherland (11) in quick succession, before DRS drama ended Perry’s hopes of a fourth ODI hundred, departing for 60. The star all-rounder was initially given not out on-field, but a successful review from the visitors saw the third umpire deem that an Alice Capsey ball hit her pad first before it did her bat.

Player-of-the-match from Australia’s win on Sunday Ash Gardner came and went for two, while Tahlia McGrath (1) continued her lean patch of form after being bowled by Lauren Filer (1/46 off nine overs).

Alana King (13) was the only Aussie bating below number five to reach double figures, as Ecclestone (4/35 off 10), Capsey (3/22 off 7) and exciting young quick Lauren Bell (2/25 off 8.3) cleaned up the tail.
