Scary news came out of Auburn Friday as the school announced that head football coach Hugh Freeze was announced with an early form of prostate cancer.

The statement posted on the Auburn football X (formerly Twitter) account said that Freeze is expected to make a full recovery, “with forthcoming and proper treatment.” He will continue his normal coaching duties and responsibilities, according to the statement.

After the diagnosis was made public, many showed their support for Freeze on social media, including former Auburn football coach and current Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville.

The announcement also drew a post from the Auburn AUTLive account on X, a program associated with Auburn men’s basketball that raises awareness of cancer prevention and detection, funded by the Bruce Pearl Family Foundation.

Auburn men’s basketball has an annual AUTLive game, and this season’s game against Tennessee offered free prostate cancer screenings on the concourse of Neville Arena.

“Our prayers are with Coach Freeze and his family. We have no doubt that he will win this fight and AUTLive cancer,“ the post read. ”Remember, early detection can save lives!”

Numerous other Auburn fans, recruits and national media members also sent their best wishes over X.
