This is the biggest weekend of tennis since the end of this year’s Australian Open two weeks. Most of the top players were among three 500-level events, which are the third biggest tournaments of the year as it pertains to ranking points. On Saturday in Rotterdam, it’s the semifinal day as three of the final four are in the world’s top 10. While on the women’s side in Abu Dhabi, it’s finals day with two players that nobody would have picked to even go deep in the tournament. This will be a fun weekend of tennis to enjoy before the big game on Sunday.
The Italian Bellucci has been the story of the tournament in the Netherlands. Bellucci ranks 92 in the world coming into this week but he has shocked the world with two wins over the top 10 wins which were over Medvedev and Tsitsipas. But he is facing the most consistent tennis player in the world, Alex De Minaur.
The Aussie of course has gone under the radar as he continues to show what being solid can take you to. The Demon has not dropped a set this week and this feels like one top-10 player too many for the Italian. Just getting to this point is the win for Bellucci as this could set him up for a big year but this should be an easy victory to put the Demon in the Rotterdam final.
The former world number one has not been playing great tennis since his Wimbledon title in July which has made him go under the radar in the tennis world since then. But he has been in top form and not messing this week in Rotterdam.
While it is great to see fellow top 10 player Hurkacz playing some great tennis this week, this is a brutal matchup for Hurkacz. Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 3-0 with all three matches taking place on a hard court. Alcaraz needs this title more than any player as he is looking to regain top form once again. It’s a good idea to have the four-time major champion in the tournament final on Sunday.
