ATP Flight School said it estimates that nearly 2,000 mandatory retirements are expected at legacy airlines in 2025, with more than 17,000 more projected through the end of the decade.
The Jacksonville, Florida-based flight school said it placed 891 graduates with regional and major airlines, as well as corporate operators in 2024. According to a news release from the company, all legacy carriers hired ATP graduates in 2024, with the majority joining United Airlines.
“As hiring stabilized from the record highs of the post-COVID rebound, demand for ATP-trained pilots underscored the industry’s continued reliance on qualified professionals,” the release said.
ATP cited data from the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), which projects that 1,802 aircraft are forecasted to be delivered in 2025. This would be a boost from the 1,254 estimated to be delivered in 2024.
ATP Flight School instructors reached 1,500 hours in 2024 and benefited from its hiring partnerships with several prominent airlines.
“ATP continues to work with hiring partners to provide turn-key hiring solutions to fill their pilot hiring pipelines ahead of continued growth in demand,” said Michael Arnold, vice president of marketing at ATP Flight School, in the release.
