Jannik Sinner has started his ninth week at No 1 in the ATP Rankings while Sebastian Korda and Flavio Cobolli have reached new career-highs on the backing of their Washington Open runs.

Sinner first hit the top spot in the rankings after the French Open as he became the first Italian world No 1 and he is now tied with Marat Safin in 21st place for most weeks spent at No 1 with Boris Becker (12), Andy Roddick (13) and Daniil Medvedev (16) in his sights.

However, they are miles away from the all-time leaders Novak Djokovic (328), Roger Federer (310) and Pete Sampras (286).

Sinner leads Djokovic by 1,110 points in the latest ATP standings and he will remain at No 1 after this week’s Canadian Open while Carlos Alcaraz is another 330 points adrift in third place.

With most of the players in action at the Paris Olympics last week, there was only one change in the top 10 with Hubert Hurkacz moving up a spot to No 6 as Alex de Minaur dropped 105 points for not competing in Washington.

Korda was the big mover into the top 20 as he climbed four spots to a career-high No 18 after winning the biggest trophy of his career.

The American, whose only other previous title was the ATP 250 Emilia-Romagna Open in May 2021, came from a set down to defeat Cobolli in the ATP 500 event in DC.

Italian Cobolli also secured a new milestone as he moved up 15 places to No 33 after reaching his maiden final.

Further down the list, Alexandre Muller won the San Marino ATP Challenger Tour event and his reward was a 22-place jump to No 77 while Thanasi Kokkinakis is up 10 spots to No 81 after reaching the third round in Washington.

Outside the top 100, Denis Shapovalov moved up 33 places to No 106 as he earned 100 points for his run to the quarter-final Washington, but there is some confusion over whether or not he will keep the points.

The Canadian was defaulted from his match against Ben Shelton following an altercation with a spectator late in the second set. A default usually results in players losing the ranking points and prize money that they earned during the tournament, but for now the official ATP Tour website has given Shapovalov the points.
