The ATP Indian Wells 2025 edition is underway and so begins the ATP 1000 series for the year. A lot of prestige is associated with this tournament and it promises to be a highly entertaining week. As ever, we try to preview and predict the matches scheduled for you.
Head-to-head – First Meeting
Dusan Lajovic is a far better player than his rankings suggests. The Serb is a solid baseliner but sadly he has not found his game this year. He faces qualifier Li Tu from Australia who did look good in qualifying but the main tour is a different level altogether. Expect Lajovic to draw on his experience at this level to be more consistent and get the win.
Prediction: Lajovic in 2
Head-to-head – First Meeting
This should be an interesting clash. Tomas Martin Etcheverry generally plays his best on the clay courts but the Argentinian is a dangerous ball striker on his day. Jakub Mensik is just 19 years old but did reach the third round at the Australian Open this year. This feels like the match may very well be decided by who serves the better and my bet is on Etcheverry.
Prediction: Etcheverry in 3

Head-to-head – Fokina 3-0 McDonald
This does not look like a good match up for the wild card Mackenzie McDonald. The American has lost all three previous meetings against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Spaniard is an aggressive baseliner and he should be able to power through McDonald provided he keeps his error count in check.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 2
Head-to-head – Monfils 3-0 Struff
It will be interesting to see how Gael Monfils performs in this segment of the season given his strong start to the year. The Frenchman takes on the tricky Jan-Lennard Struff who can make his opponents feel under powered. That being said, Struff hasn’t hit his straps since the past couple of tournaments and does not carry a whole lot of confidence. Expect Monfils to start strong here at a place where he does play well.
Prediction: Monfils in 2
