Rublev – Draper: 22.02.2025 16:00 CEST
H2H: 3-0
Andrey Rublev has won three of his last five matches. The last match he played before the ATP Doha was in Rotterdam two weeks ago. He was stopped in the quarterfinal, losing against Hurkacz in three tight sets.
This week in Doha, Andrey won against Bublik in the opening round in straight sets, as we had predicted. Besides losing his serve once, Andrey served well throughout the whole match. As we predicted, he won against Borges in straight sets in the second round. This time, Rublev offered no breakpoints. As we predicted, de Minaur put up a big fight against Rublev in the quarterfinals. The Russian even saved one match point in the deciding set. After spending almost three hours on the court, Rublev won in three tight sets.
Today, in the semifinals, Andery had another three-set thriller. He won against Auger-Aliassime after spending almost three hours on the court. Andrey was great under pressure in the deciding set and deservedly won. So far this season, Andrey has not had any remarkable results. It is his seventh appearance in Doha. He won the title in 2020, winning against Moutet in the final. Last season, Andrey was stopped in the quarterfinal, losing against Mensik in straight sets. He hopes for a solid result this week to stay in the top 10.
Jack Draper has won four of his last five matches. So far this season, Draper has only played at the Australian Open. He retired in the 1/8-Finals against Alcaraz after losing the second set 1-6. Jack had his off-season ruined by a hip injury. He played three five-setters in Melbourne and eventually retired because he was out of fuel against Alcaraz.
Jack won his opening-round match against Popyrin this week in Doha in straight sets. He offered and saved only one breakpoint. In the second round, O’Connell had no answer for Jack’s game. Draper offered no breakpoints this time and won 6-2 6-1 within an hour. In the quarterfinals against Berrettini, Jack won in three tight sets, as we predicted. After losing the opening set 4-6, Jack stepped up his level and turned the match around.
Today, in the semifinals, Draper once again turned the match around. After losing the opening set 3-6 against Lehecka, Jack stayed calm and won the most important points of the second set. In the deciding set at 3-3, Jack won three straight games and closed out the match. Last year around this time, Draper played in Los Cabos, losing in the opening round against Kokkinakis in three tight sets.
According to the bookies, this will be a 50-50 match, but we disagree. Rublev had his biggest results at the ATP 500 tournaments. He has already won five ATP 500 titles and aims for his 17th ATP title. He is more experienced at this level, and we believe his experience will prevail tomorrow.
That being said, Rublev winning is a value bet.
