The quarterfinals at the ATP Delray Beach Open are set, and four exciting matches await the fans. Three of the top four seeds are through, including the top seed, Taylor Fritz, who will take on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance to the semifinals?
Head-to-Head: Kecmanovic 1-2 Giron
Miomir Kecmanovic is into his second Delray Beach Open quarterfinals. He got a walkover in the second round due to Yoshihito Nishioka’s withdrawal. Kecmanovic is playing some of his best tennis this season, averaging career-high numbers behind the first serve. He will need to be extra sharp against Marcos Giron, who has troubled him in the past and will be up for the fight on his home soil. Hard court is Giron’s best surface, and he has only lost two matches this season. This could be a very tight match and both players will fancy their chances to win.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3
Head-to-Head: Michelsen 0-1 Norrie
This is the rematch of last week’s first-round match in Dallas, where Cameron Norrie made a great comeback win after losing the first set. Alex Michelsen was involved in a real tussle against Michael Mmoh in the second round and will need to improve his performance if he wants revenge against Norrie. The Brit is slowly but surely getting closer to his best level, and these courts suit his game pretty well. Norrie’s consistency and ability to grind on a hot day can bother Michelsen. I am expecting a close match but the same result as last week.
Prediction: Norrie in 3

Head-to-Head: Arnaldi 0-1 Nakashima
Matteo Arnaldi made a great comeback from trailing 3-5 in the third set to win against Learner Tien and reach his first Delray Beach Open quarterfinals. Arnaldi was the second-best player in most of the match but stepped up when it mattered the most. The Italian hit 24 aces and saved many break points due to his serve. Brandon Nakashima got his best win of the season as he put up a solid performance against Reilly Opelka in the second round. Nakashima broke Opelka’s serve three times in the match, which is never easy. This win should give him confidence after a slow start to the year, and he is my pick to make the semifinals.
Prediction: Nakashima in 3
Head-to-Head: Fritz 1-2 Fokina
Taylor Fritz was pushed hard in the first set by Yunchaokete Bu and the American did well to win the tiebreak. It was smooth sailing for Fritz after that. The two-time defending champion should be pleased with the start to his three-peat campaign and be prepared for a challenging match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is in his first quarterfinal at the Delray Beach Open. The Spaniard dropped a set in the second round but finished the match in style.
Fokina leads the head-to-head against Fritz, but both his wins came on clay, while Fritz won the only hard-court encounter. Fokina can trouble the American from the back of the court but getting in rallies often on Fritz’s serve would be a huge task.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
