Davidovich Fokina – Zhang: 26.09.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has lost three straight matches. His last win was over a month ago in Montreal, where he upset Medvedev in three tight sets. After that, Davidovich Fokina lost his opening match in Cincinnati, and was upset by Hijikata in the first round of the US Open. This has been one of the worst seasons for the Spaniard, who has not had any remarkable results this season, which led to him being outside the top 60 in the rankings. Last year in Beijing, Alejandro lost in the second round against Zverev.
Zhizhen Zhang has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Hangzhou, Zhang reached the final, where he lost against Marin Cilic in straight sets as we predicted. With that result, Zhang cemented his top 50 status. Around this time last year, Zhang played in the Asian Games, where he won the title, winning against Watanuki in the final.
According to the bookies, Zhang is the slight favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. He will have the crowd on his side, and the momentum as well. Zhang played solidly last week in Hangzhou, so we believe that he will be confident coming into this match. On the other hand, Alejandro struggled throughout the whole season.
That being said, Zhang winning is a value bet.

Monfils – Medvedev: 26.09.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 2-2
Gaël Monfils has won three of his last five matches. The last match he played was at the US Open, where he was defeated by Ruud in the second round of the tournament. Gael is on the verge of dropping outside the top 50 in the rankings, so he is hoping for a solid result this week in Tokyo. Last year around this time, Gael played in Stockholm, where he won the tournament, winning against Kotov in the final.
Daniil Medvedev has lost three straight matches. His last win was at the US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, when he lost against Sinner. After that, Medvedev played in the Laver Cup, where he lost both of his matches against the Americans. Daniil had his biggest results this season on the faster courts, such as this one. Last year in Beijing, Medvedev reached the final, where he lost against Sinner in two tiebreaks. That being said, Daniil has a lot of points to defend this week.
According to the bookies, Medvedev is the slight favorite in this matchup. We believe that Monfils can not match Medvedev´s intensity. Daniil has some great results this season on the hard courts, and we believe that he will win this match easily.
That being said, Medvedev winning in straight sets is a value bet.
