Sinner – Shelton: 24.01.2025 Time TBA
H2H: 4-1
Jannik Sinner has won 22 straight matches. This is his first tournament of the season. Before the Australian Open, Jannik played in the Davis Cup last year, winning the Davis Cup with Italy. His last loss was in October in Beijing, where he lost against Alcaraz in the final, as we had predicted.
Sinner defeated Jarry in straight sets in the Australian Open, as we predicted. In the second round, Sinner defeated Schoolkate in four sets. Surprisingly, he lost the first set 4-6. After that, in the third round, Sinner dominated against Giron in straight sets, as we predicted. Jannik is the defending champion in the Australian Open. Sinner defeated Rune in four sets, as we predicted in the 1/8-Finals. Both players struggled physically, but Sinner closed the match by winning the third and fourth sets. In the quarterfinals, de Minaur had no weapons for Jannik’s game today. Sinner won in straight sets, as we predicted. He offered and saved only one breakpoint.
Last year, Sinner defeated Medvedev in five sets in the final after being 0-2 down. He currently has two Grand Slam titles, and this will be a big chance for him to win his second Australian Open title.
Ben Shelton has won four of his last five matches. He started this season with a loss in Auckland last week. Shelton lost against Mensik after fighting for almost three hours on the court.
In the opening Australian Open round, Shelton defeated Nakashima in tight straight sets. He was 2-5 down in the opening set but turned it around. After that, in the second round, Ben defeated Carreno-Busta in four tight sets. Ben was excellent under pressure, saving all six breakpoints. In the third round, Shelton defeated Musetti in four sets, as we predicted. Ben served well, hitting 11 aces and having a 70% 1st serve percentage. Against Monfils in the 1/8-Finals, Shelton led 2-1 when Monfils retired with a back injury. Today, Ben had it hard against Sonego in the quarterfinals, as we predicted. Shelton won the first two sets, but Sonego won the third and kept it close in the fourth. However, Ben stayed calm and won the match in four sets.
Last year, Ben was upset by Adrian Mannarino in the third round, losing in five tight sets. His best result came in 2023 when he reached the quarterfinals, losing against Tommy Paul.
This is his third appearance in the Australian Open.
According to the bookies, Sinner is the big favorite in this matchup, and we agree. He is currently on a 22-match winning streak. Jannik is the biggest favorite to win the title this year in Melbourne. Ben has had a favorable draw so far. He has yet to face a top-10 player. Jannik won the last four head-to-head meetings. In their last match, Sinner won in Shanghai under similar conditions in straight sets. We expect him to prolong his winning streak and win easily once again.
That being said, Sinner covering the games handicap is a value bet.
