Paul – Hijikata: 09.01.2025 03:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Tommy Paul has won three of his last five matches. Here in Adelaide, Paul defeated Guinard in three tight sets in the opening round. We believe that he will give his best to go far this week to prepare accordingly for the Australian Open. Last year in Adelaide, Tommy reached the quarterfinals, losing against Jack Draper in straight sets. Shortly after, Tommy reached the third round in the Australian Open, losing in a tight match against Kecmanovic in five sets. However, shortly after that, Paul went on to win the tournament in Dallas, and just a week after, Paul finished as a runner-up in Delray Beach.
Rinky Hijikata has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Brisbane, Hijikata lost in the opening round against Djokovic in straight sets. Here in Adelaide, Hijikata failed to qualify for the main draw tournament, losing against Walton in the final qualifying round. However, with several players withdrawing from the tournament, Walton entered the main draw as a lucky loser. In the opening main draw round, Hijikata dominated against Goffin in straight sets. Today in the 1/8-Finals, Rinky upset Nakashima in three tight sets.
According to the bookies, Hijikata is the big underdog in this matchup, but we disagree. Paul looked rusty in his opening match against Guinard. On the other hand, Hijikata has already defeated several solid hard-court players and has shown great tennis. We expect him to keep this match tight.
That said, Hijikata winning at least one set is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Rinky HIjikata +1.5 sets @2.10 @bet365
Auger-Aliassime – Giron: 09.01.2025 04:30 CEST
H2H: 4-1
Felix Auger-Aliassime has won three of his last five matches. The young Canadian started this season by playing in the United Cup. He lost his opening match against Coric but defeated Fritz shortly after that. Here in Adelaide, Felix won his opening match against Cazaux after losing the first set 1-6. Around this time last year, Felix played in Auckland, losing in the opening round against Altmaier in straight sets.
Marcos Giron has won four of his last five matches. His last competitive match before Adelaide was in October last year in Paris. Here in Adelaide, Giron won his opening match against Vukic in three tight sets. Today in the 1/8-Finals, Giron upset Shapovalov in straight sets. Being an American, Giron loves playing on fast courts like this. He hopes for a solid result this week to stay in the top 50. Around this time last year, Giron played in Auckland, where he lost in the opening round against Altmaier in straight sets.
According to the bookies, Felix is the favorite in this matchup, but we disagree. Giron played an incredible match against Shapovalov, so we expect him to be fully confident coming into this match. We believe that he will have a decent chance against Denis tomorrow.
That being said, Giron winning at least one set is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Marcos Giron +1.5 sets @1.63 @bet365
