Pete Mundo wrote: “Arizona State is 3-0, and while they took care of Texas State, which was expected to be a closer game than most people thought, it was a game that ASU looked somewhat vulnerable in. Also, their Mississippi State win doesn’t look as good after the Bulldogs lost to Toledo. And Wyoming, their Week 1 win, isn’t as impressive as it seemed two weeks ago either. But no matter what, this team is still the story of the Big 12 in the early season and it’s been fun to watch.”
SuperWest Sports, which ranks all the teams in the West regardless of conference, had ASU football at No. 5, behind Utah, Oregon, USC and California.
Dane Miller wrote: “Kenny Dillingham’s group secured a solid road victory against Texas State. Sam Leavitt operates the offense effectively and Cam Skattebo is a beast on the ground. Entering Big 12 play with a 3-0 mark, there are now expectations for ASU to compete for a conference championship.”
Not everyone is higher on the Sun Devils, however, after their 3-0 start.
Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal dropped ASU one spot to No. 11 in its most recent ranking of Big 12 football teams.
He wrote: “There are teams every year starting 3-0 and finishing under .500.”
