Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is realizing that the NFL is much different than college football. While speaking with DJ Siddiqi of Responsible Gamer, Richardson named the biggest difference between the college game and pro football.
“The difference between the colleges and the pros is the speed,” Richardson said. “Sometimes in college, not everyone is fast. But in the pros, I feel everyone is fast. You got big, strong guys like that running at you every time. You’re just taking the hits — you always have that in mind. But I’d say the speed of the game [is the biggest difference].”
Richardson also told Siddiqi that “being consistent” is his top objective and developing his “routine” has also been a major adjustment. “In the NFL, everything matters — the details matter,” he added. “Making sure I’m consistent in my routine, that’s definitely something I’m trying to master while I’m in the league so far. That’s been one of my main goals throughout my career — being consistent. Everybody knows what I can do, everybody knows that I make flashy plays, I just want to make sure I’m consistent and trusting in my process and my grind.”
Anthony Richardson has dealt with his share of challenges at the start of his career. The former Florida Gators QB only played in four games during his rookie season due to an injured shoulder. This year, Richardson has missed two games due to an oblique injury. He returned to the lineup on Sunday and led the Colts to a 16-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Richardson struggled in the passing game on Sunday, completing 10 of his 24 passes for 129 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. However, Richardson led all Colts rushers with 56 yards on 14 carries.
“I think it’s his strength, and his size to get out of those tough situations and, like I said, it was huge,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters after the game, per ESPN. “You got a few of them [Sunday] to avoid some very bad plays. So, credit to him and his ability to get out of those things and avoid those situations.”
