J.B. Wallace has stepped down as head football coach at Prattville High School.

The school announced the decision in a release Wednesday afternoon.

Wallace spent four years as head coach of the Lions, accumulating a 21-20 and failing to win a playoff game (0-1). The 2024 team started 4-0 before losing five straight games. The Lions ended a 5-5 season with a win over JAG on Nov. 1.

According to a release, the school will begin the process of finding a new coach immediately.

“Prattville High School is committed to providing its athletes with an exceptional education and athletic experience, and the search for the next football coach will focus on finding a leader who shares these values,” the release stated.

Between 1999 and 2011, two coaches – Bill Clark and Jamey DuBose – went a combined 38-8 in the playoffs with state championships in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011. Three coaches since (Chad Anderson, Caleb Ross and Wallace) went 4-6 in the playoffs.

In the latest AHSAA reclassification last fall, Prattville moved from Region 2 in Class 7A (Montgomery/Auburn/Dothan) to Region 3 (Birmingham). The Lions went 0-4 against Region 3 playoff teams Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Thompson and Hewitt-Trussville and were outscored by a combined 180-34.

Smiths Station, another Class 7A program, is also looking for a replacement for former coach Bryant Garrison.
